Prince Diponegoro in Dutch Perspectives

From 1785 until the present

This exhibition focuses on the legacy and influence of prince Diponegoro (1785-1855) in the Netherlands on a socio-cultural and political level. Prince Diponegoro in Dutch Perspectives shows Diponegoro’s role in the Java War (1825-1830) and his multi-layered legacies today nationally and internationally on a social, cultural and political level. Highlight of the exhibition are two letters from the colletion of the Royal Military Academy, Breda written by Diponegoro when while in exile in Manado to his mother Raden Ayu Mangkorowati (1770-1852) and to his son. The exhibition ran parallel to Aku Diponegoro: Sang Pangeran dalam Ingatan Bangsa dari Raden Saleh hingga Kini at Galeri Nasional, Jakarta, organized by Goethe Institut.
